See Chickens Grow

My how chickens grow but fast!  We’ve had them three long weeks already and they are almost outgrowing the largest box I have.  They have mostly lost their downy fluff and are sporting grown up feathers, still filling in.  They stretch their wings and try to fly around the box, looking forward to daily visits with us.

At least once a day I remove the netting that covers the box.  Several of them immediately hop up onto the water and food containers then fly up and perch on the edge of the box.  They seem content to just sit and stare at us curiously.  They seem just as interested in us as we are in them.

I’m amazed at how calm they are for the most part considering the loud yells, screams, tantrums, crashes and running feet we have in the household.

One more week and they may be big enough to move outside into their new coop.  The green lid you see in the box goes under the waterer.  They figured out almost two weeks ago they could kick water out, softening the cardboard and then peck through the box.  These chickens are organized!  It’s just a good thing they don’t have opposable thumbs.
