Do you want to be a farmer but live in the city? You can! This weekend the Seattle Urban Farming Coop is having an awareness and fundraiser at Ravenna Ridge SPOT Farm (7355 33rd Ave NE, Seattle, WA 98115.) It’s the first annual big Mini Goat Festival!
May 1, Sat., 5-7pm wine & cheese tasting
May 2, Sun., 12-4pm, Festival: goats, demos, games, market
WHY?
Productive Pets add value to our local food supply.
Imagine a friendly pet, that gives healthy food to your family!
Support the Seattle Farm Co-op’s efforts to bring organic feed and food growing supplies to the city. Come to meet the miniature dairy goats, play fun games, see cheese and soap making demos, or just celebrate and learn about the relatively new option to add home-based dairy to your family’s menu. Its about fun, food security, and healthy, organic local food!

There will be a bake sale and silent auction table, plant starts and many other things for you to choose from. I’ll be at the wine and cheese tasting Saturday night as well as the festival on Sunday and I’d love to meet you! We’ll have chickens, worms and goats, oh my!
On Sunday at 12:30 I’ll be doing a chevre demonstration and talking about other easy home cheeses you can make from backyard goat milk (or our own local St. John’s Creamery milk.) Learn to make cheeses at home with inexpensive or no fancy equipment required!
On Sunday at 1:00 there will be a mozzarella pulling and at 2:30 I’ll be talking about how you can garden in the winter here in Seattle again using no special equipment. Did you know you don’t need cloches or cold frames? All you have to do is choose the right varieties of plants and start them at the right time.
So please come on over this weekend and see how you can farm in the city!

We will try to pop by Saturday night but time is seriously elusive these days. If things come to fruition, I will be in touch or maybe we’ll see you Sat pm.
This looks like an unbelievable event! I am going to pass this onto the users of DigtheDirt in the Seattle area. Too cool! Hope to be there on Sunday… I am assuming kids are allowed….??
Tiffany I hope to see you!
Kaarina most definitely – kids of all sorts! Who else would want to play goat poop bingo?
so awesome to meet you today! let’s definitely get together soon. meanwhile, i forgot to tell you i’m making your grandma’s rhubard pie this week! it looks too yummy!
Angela you too! I hope you guys enjoy the pie. I’m waiting for the rhubarb to come back more before making it again. I may have to hit the farmer’s market though…Technically our plants are only second year in this location so we *shouldn’t* be eating them but it’s too hard to wait.
Kaarina & Tiffany – it was great meeting you too or seeing you again!
